MANUAL THERAPY

The Myoskeletal Alignment Technique (MAT) system is a comprehensive therapeutic approach that aims to correct patterns in the body that can cause pain and deterioration. By bringing together advanced therapeutic strategies, MAT offers a unique hands-on bodywork system that can restore function, alleviate pain, and re-educate the body. Our principal therapist, Cindy, is a Master Myoskeletal Therapist and the first in Singapore and Asia to hold this distinction.

The human body is a complex system that includes both structural and functional components, such as bones, connective tissue, nerves, and neural signals that trigger muscular contraction. These systems are interconnected and rely on continuous feedback to function correctly. Without a proper understanding of how these systems work together, it can be challenging to correctly diagnose and treat musculoskeletal issues. Through our assessments, we identify the root causes of pain, restore balance, and optimize performance. We also employ additional techniques such as exercises, taping, and functional neurology as needed to complement manual therapy.

Manual therapy is a clinical approach that involves specific hands-on techniques aimed at treating musculoskeletal problems. This approach is effective in addressing a wide range of conditions, both acute and chronic, that affect all joints and muscles. The conditions that can be treated with manual therapy include, but are not limited to, sprains, strains, instability, limited mobility, back and neck pain, sports injuries, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, post-fracture rehabilitation, and postural problems.

Our approach to manual therapy involves a combination of treatments, such as exercises therapy, taping, dry cupping, and functional neurology, as necessary. Chronic pain often stems from common imbalances and dysfunctional patterns in the musculoskeletal system. By combining skilled manual therapy with corrective exercises, we can relieve most chronic pain.

What Manual Therapy Does for You?

        • Relieves Chronic Pain Contributing to Weak Posture
        • Releases Trapped Nerves From Tight Muscles, Joints and Ligaments
        • Corrects Atrophy, Weakness and Muscle Amnesia in Head-Forward Postures
        • Addresses Breathing Disorders Caused by a Drooping Ribcage
        • Lessens Pain Sensitivity Through Graded Exposure Assisted Stretching
        • Eliminates Protective Muscle Guarding Due to Joint Dysfunction
        • Improves Sleep by Lowering Sympathetic Nervous System Tone
        • Creates Dynamic, Confident Posture With Innovative Restorative Techniques
        • Corrects Sports-Related Tendon and Joint Injuries
        • Enhances Athletic Performance Through Hands-On Proprioceptive Training
        • Changes the Brain’s Mind About Pain Through Targeted Exercise Advice
        • Prevents Chronic Neck and Back Pain Due to Tension, Trauma & Weak Posture

    How Does Manual Therapy Work?

        • Contract-relax techniques can make the nervous system less threatened by the movement, even if muscles aren’t permanently lengthening, trigger points aren’t being obliterated, fascia isn’t stretching, etc.
        • Active pain-free therapy signals the brain that the previously painful movement is now safe.
        • By doing this repeatedly, the nervous system will often start to disassociate the movement from the pain.
        • The goal is to bring as much “good news” as possible to the nervous system.

True healing comes from promoting functional endurance and balance of muscles, rather than increasing base strength.

How Does Myoskeletal Alignment Differ From Other Deep Tissue Massage Techniques?

Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT) is a system developed by Erik Dalton as a tool to help relieve our nation’s neck and back pain epidemic. By incorporating muscle balancing techniques with joint stretching maneuvers, manual therapists learn to quickly identify and correct dysfunctional, neurologically driven strain patterns before they become pain patterns. The typical deep tissue massage focuses mostly on providing temporary relief without identifying and correcting dysfunctional patterns.
